So we are back at the cabin... playing boose car... the new boose car... having a few drinks... Lori and Jeff are making dinner, when BAMM... Jeff chopping mint almost chops off his finger. We are not sure how much he has taken off. Lynne, the calm one in an emergency calls 911. They give her instructions and send help. Jeff is definitely going into shock because it is so unlike him to make a mistake, especially with a knife. He is on the floor with legs up and Lori soothing him with cold cloths. His hand is wrapped and elevated. So there is all this highway construction going on and the traffic is being detoured onto Interlaken, right in front of our house. We hear ambulances and fire engines, but they go right past us and then about 20 minutes later a fire truck and an ambulance pull up in front of our house. Almost immediately, they determine that the fire truck is not needed and send it to the next emergency. The EMT's assess Jeff and we are not sure if we will have to go to Truckee to the hospital or not. They determine, "or not", bandage him up, talk him through the trauma and get on their way. In the meantime, a neighbor drives by and asks, "Is there a death?'
